Englisch (English) Master of Education (M.Ed.) at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg is a four-semester, English-taught teacher-training programme (120 ECTS) that combines English didactics with linguistics or literary and cultural studies. Students must study at least one other subject and demonstrate proficiency in English (B2), German (C1) and either Latin or an additional modern foreign language (B2). The programme combines the acquisition of advanced English language skills with an intercultural and interdisciplinary study of language, cultural phenomena, literatures and media, with particular emphasis on the teaching of English as a foreign language. It refines critical thinking, offers insight into various English-speaking cultures, and qualifies graduates for admission to the practical training phase (Referendariat) for teacher education at the Gymnasium. The programme starts in both winter and summer semesters, with applications submitted online between 1 June and 15 July for winter and 1 December and 15 January for summer.
