Kunstwissenschaften (M.A.) at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle is a two-year, research-oriented master's programme that links art history, philosophy and art pedagogy, sharpening their concepts discursively through concrete engagement with works of art. Its research fields lie in the reflection, exhibition and mediation of art, with a particular focus on the arts of the 20th and 21st centuries and their contextualisation. Located at one of Germany's largest art academies with art and design faculties, the programme allows continuous comparison of scholarly approaches with artistic practice and its presentation platforms. Students gain deep knowledge in art sciences and practical skills in curating, art criticism and art pedagogy for both institutional and freelance careers, and the programme qualifies them to pursue doctoral studies. Excursions to studios, collections, biennales and art fairs, the university's own collection and exhibition venues such as the Burg Galerie support individual research questions.
