The Master's programme in Arabic Studies at Freie Universität Berlin offers an in-depth insight into current research and into contemporary and classic scholarly debates in the field. Students examine selected texts of classical and modern Arabic literature as well as central texts of Arabic-Islamic culture such as the Qur'an, Hadith and Tafsir, addressing questions of genre, literary form, symbolism, intertextuality and intermediality. A wide range of methods and working techniques from literary and cultural studies are applied and practised, encouraging interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives. Applicants need a first university degree with at least 60 credit points in Arabic-related subjects, written Arabic at B2 and oral Arabic at B1 level, knowledge of an additional foreign language, English at B2 level and German language skills (DSH) if their previous degree was not taught in German.
