Kindheit, Jugend, Soziale Dienste (Childhood, Youth, Social Services, M.A.) at Bergische Universität Wuppertal is a research-oriented master's programme conveying central analytical and conceptual competencies regarding the living situations of children and young people and the institutional forms of dealing with them. It lays the foundation for professional planning, conceptual and evaluative activities while also preparing students for an academic career. At the centre of the programme stand childhood and youth as socially constituted life situations and the associated institutional forms of their professional handling, with the central phenomenon being the 'institutionalisation of childhood'. Existing facilities and programmes - for example in child and youth welfare - are continuously expanded and adapted to changed conditions, and new forms of intervention are developed and implemented. This four-semester programme is admission-free (no NC) and combines social-science analysis with professional fields of child and youth services.
